January 2010 meeting — What's coming in 2010
Tuesday, January 19, 5:30–7:00 p.m.

What: Setting our goals and planning some projects for the coming year. Before our meeting begins, Juneau Embry, County Chair, will conduct the drawing to determine the order of our party's candidates on the ballot for the coming primary election. This will take only a few minutes. Dessert and coffee will be served.

March 2009 meeting — Tuesday, March 17, 5:30–7:00 pm
Speaker: Rosie Mimms of Glen Rose, Texas, who currently serves as the Secretary of the Texas Democratic Women (TDW). She will be speaking on the recent annual convention in Austin of the Texas Democratic Women.

Donations are collected at each meeting for the East Texas Women’s Center.

Paper goods are the most needed items. Dinner will be served.
February 2009 meeting— Tuesday, February 17, 5:30 pm
Speaker: Tammy Cromer-Campbell — Exploring Green Power for Longview
Cromer-Campbell will give an overview of our power sources and their problems, a look at renewable sources such as wind, oil and gas geothermal, efficiencies and ways to go green on your own. She will also discuss options such as purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates.

Tammy Cromer-Campbell is a photographer/author/filmmaker and a community organizer. Her first book, Fruit of the Orchard, recently won a Green Dot Awards First Place under Entertainment and Culture. The Green Dot Awards™ strive to reward and promote forward-thinking businesses that create environmentally friendly products or services, and to reward revolutionary green business plans and proposals. She is an Honoree for the 2009 National Women's History Project for Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Environment. Cromer-Campbell co-founded WE CAN, Working Effectively for Clean Air Now, in 2000 to help educate the public about air quality issues.

East Texas Inaugural Celebration — Tuesday, January 20

It’s time to get together and celebrate our blessings, our friendships and our commitment to our great Party. Members please bring a finger food or a dessert to share. If you're so inclined, please bring a gift for the women at the women's shelter and/or a gift of a serving spoon for the Longview Community Center.

November 2008 meeting — Tuesday, November 18, 5:30–7:00 pm
Honoring the election workers and area county chairs with a Thanksgiving-themed potluck dinner. Please bring a side dish or a dessert to share. It will give us a chance to discuss the election and "de-brief." If you know of an election worker or an area county chair, please extend a personal invitation to this event. We want to honor their hard work and dedication to the Democratic Party and extend our thanks for all they do to conduct the election.

Speaker: Patrick Franklin, Internet Tools for Politics and Elections — Since the early 1990s, when the internet became widely available to individual users, a digital revolution has swept across ever facet of our lives. Politics is not insulated from this revolution. The Democratic sweep of the 2006 elections was due in no small part to the fact that
Democrats have been most aggressive in taking advantage of the technological tools available to us today. To be successful in 2008, we must continue to be on the cutting edge of technological innovation. This presentation will give an introductory overview of some of the tools available to activists and some suggestions on how we can use these tools to help advance Democratic issues and candidates in East Texas in the upcoming election.

Maxine Golightly: Texas Silver Haired Legislature organization. Maxine, from Hallsville, serves on TSHL's Human Services and Communications committees. The Texas Silver-Haired Legislature provides senior citizens an opportunity to become directly involved in the legislative process. The TSHL goals center around Senior welfare and range from motivation and education to provision of an open discussion forum for Seniors. The objective of these goals is to realize passage of TSHL priorities in the Texas Legislature.
